I watched Gamescom 2026 opening night, via a stream from Maximillian Dood1. I never watch game announcements or shows raw anymore. Just too boring. I need constant, funny commentary like some MST3K addict.
Anyway, up came the trailer for GRAVHOUNDS, a 1-4 player co-op action builder. At least that's what the description on the trailer said.
At first glance, I got overly excited. I thought this was going to be a large co-op builder. Something like Battlefield with 30-60 dogs fighting, searching resources, and building to get off planet. A massive PVE with humanoid dogs!
I've been playing a fair amount of Battlefield 6 which I suck at, but I enjoy because I can get lost in the size of it, outside of the 4-person squads. HINT: turn off all comms to enjoy if you suck or just mess around like me.
My heart sank a little when I did some research. I really can't stand small teams. I want a big world, where we're all working together. I can find a job. Maybe exterminate some aliens but mostly building, exploring, and research grinding (plant picking). Also custom doggo would be cool.
The trailer itself was fun. It got me hooked but left questions (clearly!) regarding what the game was really about. What the mechanics were, etc. The design is great. Fun and weird. Very Dog City2.
I suppose my desire for a specific game really taints my viewing of these previews. Expectations put a mark on the work done by the teams building and marketing these games. That's my bad.
